A day away from Cleveland Clinic is a good day, although I drive there Thursday and will return over the weekend. Another MRI this morning, so I’m still a little stoned.
Portfolio holding up nicely. As far as I can tell, it made money yesterday and today, down about $100 for May, way, way, better than the Indexes. I still feel if “talk” of austerity looks plausible here (Balancing the budget, reducing the deficit) get into defensive stocks (big div) or out all together. The world can cope with Europe if Europe doesn’t self destruct. Seems Europeans have had enough of Germany’s capturing their finances and will insist on some growth measures(bonds, govt spend money etc) along with re-structuring. Here, it is much easier, do not allow locals to rape and pillage schools and minimal services for the poor, old, and infirmed. If Congress cuts funds to states and locals so there are fewer police, fire fighters, and teachers, then we will live in another 1937-like depression. Slowing spending but not cutting jobs should be the cry. DC seems too stupid and they will bicker and good people will not work and the debt will grow. cuts=debt growth spend=debt decrease. Yep, Fed is not your family budget or wallet. Dumb, bum analogy. Krugman summed it up best this past weekend, We are like a farm, in the off season when no $ are coming in, we work hard to mend fences, paint barns and prepare the land, so we are ready when the time comes to plant and harvest. We must do the same with our educational systems, housing, and infrastructure.
I will post our current portfolio, as of today.
